Meet Alma
Alma Valenzuela is the CEO and founder of Alun and a certified somatic practitioner with over a decade of clinical experience supporting deep, embodied healing. Her work is shaped by both extensive professional training and lived experience—having navigated her own journey through chronic illness, emotional overwhelm, and nervous system dysregulation.
When traditional talk therapy alone fell short, Alma turned toward the body and discovered that healing unfolds through sensation, presence, and nervous system regulation—helping clients feel safer, more connected, and at home in their bodies. Grounded in psychology, neuroscience, and somatic psychotherapy, and informed by yoga and reiki, her approach honors the body as a vital source of wisdom and transformation.
In 2008, Alma founded Body and Mind, the first holistic healing center in Villa de Leyva, Colombia, creating a space where the body was central to the therapeutic process. This work later evolved into Emotional Fitness, an online program that brings somatic healing beyond borders.
Alma holds advanced certifications in Somatic Psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, with additional training in Brainspotting and Structural Dissociation interventions. She is currently a PsyD candidate in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Somatic Psychotherapy.
Since founding Alun in 2014, Alma has supported clients navigating trauma, PTSD and complex PTSD, dissociation, anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, autism, and high sensitivity (HSP).
Alma offers online sessions in English and Spanish, based in Los Angeles, CA, and works with clients worldwide through telehealth.
